FIX: No HP Media Vaults Found on the Network

by David Leibowitz | January 16, 2009 | Comments: 2

Having a problem with the HP Control Center for the MV5140, even though you can browse to the NAS drive in Windows Explorer and reach the Administrative Page in IE.

The problem could be your Firewall rules blocking the application executable that HP provides for the HP Media Vault.

In my case, I use ESET Smart Security for Firewall and AntiVirus.

Reach the Setup, and Filtering Mode was set to 'Automatic' which tries to figure out harmful apps, with no feedback. I changed that to Interactive mode, so at least ESET would issue a prompt for applications attempting to hit the 'net. That worked!

When I went back to the HP Control Center (or whatever they call it) and clicked any of the configuration items, or "Settings fo iTunes" I was prompted to allow/deny the application and to save the decision. Case closed.

Have you had it where you could see your files but you can't 'Customize your Media Vault'?

I can see all the file and use the Media Vault as a NAS but when I try to 'Customize my Media Vault', I get "Page Load Error" from my browser.

My McAfee Security Center is working fine and I have all the HP programs with full access. Only 'change' is I changed to Verizon FIOS which came with a new router/modem.
